PT Dirganta, Indonesia’s state-owned aerospace industry built N219, a twin 850shp PT6A-42 powered regional airliner and utility aircraft, flew for the first time on August 16 at Bandung, 150km from Jakarta.

The aircraft is planned for remote area operations within Indonesia and the company wants to develop experience with the type before it is offered for international sales.

The 19-passenger aircraft will provide competition for the forthcoming Mahindra GippsAero GA18 Nomad from Australia, the Viking built Twin Otter 400 and Ruag Dornier Do-228 built using Indian manufactured components.

The majority of the funding for the aircraft’s development was acquired from Qatar.
